First Day of School

The first day of school was the day after Ashton's birthday.  It starts super early at our house.  Lexie is out the door by 6:30 am to get to seminary.  Ashton and Abbie head out to the bus at 7:10.

Lexie is a sophomore....

Ashton is in 4th grade....

Abbie is in second grade....

We Ashton and Abbie's teachers at back to school night and I think they are going to love their teachers and have great years.  Lexie has tons of hard classes, her schedule is full of preAP and AP classes.  She is totally up to the task, though.  Everyone should have a great year.

Special Treat

Abbie was struggling a little with reading, so I decided to sign her up for a summer online reading program.  It was done through the University of Minnesota.  She worked hard on it all summer and learned a lot.  I told her if she could get through all of the books before school started I would take her out for ice cream.....

I think that face says it all.

Ashton's Birthday

Ashton turned 10 on Labor Day this year.

Baseball birthday cake.  Perfect for Ashton!

He was so kind as to let Myles help him open his presents.

Legos, legos and more legos.

Cute helper!

After presents we went to the local batting cages for some batting practice because that is what Ashton wanted to do.  The other kids played at the part next door.  Fun day.

In the cage.

He took a break from hitting to take a birthday phone call from our friends.  They sang to him.

Nice hit!

Ashton is such a great kid.  I am so proud of him and the choices that he makes.  He is a great example to everyone around him.  He is super smart.  He is always wiling to help and he is a great friend.  I love this boy.

Before and after.... home improvement style

We have done a few fixer upper projects around our house since moving in.  Jake put down a garage floor coating that is awesome in our garage.  I don't have pics of that.  We painted the boys room.  It was one of the first things we did because we had to fix a hole in the wall.  Here is a before (this is the previous owners stuff)

It kinda reminded me of an Andes mint....

Here is right after we painted.  It is called stainless blue.  Ashton and I picked out the color and I love it.  We still need to hang some stuff on the walls, then I will take a better after photo.

Before school started I realized that we needed a better system for where backpacks and coats and snow gear would go so we painted and fixed up the laundry room.

Before

It had this closet.  We took off the doors because they just got it the way.  We added some hooks for coats and stuff at the kids lever.  And we added some up high outside the closet for our stuff too.  I really like how it turned out.

After... The orange is gone.
Well at least in this room.  The front entrance is the same awful color and will be getting painted soon!  But that is going to be a huge task.

We also retained the deck and the playground in the backyard.  That is a task I never want to repeat.  It took forever.  Like all day.  We finished in the dark by flash light.  Not fun.  But it looks okay.  Better than it did before anyway.  That deck is one of the things that we loved about this house.  The whole backyard is amazing, we need to use it more next spring/summer.

State Fair

We were able to go to the Minnesota State Fair on military appreciation day.  That was fun.

We learned about honey.

Lexie grew a beard.... hahaha

We found TC.

This is one of favorite places to grab a bite to eat.  And the kids love to sit in this pig.

It was HOT.

The Miracle of Life Barn is our favorite place.  So many cute baby animals.

We climbed to the top of the fire tower.

My best effort of a selfie with Ashton at the top.  I know not so great.

Tractor display.

Everyone got to pick there favorite for a picture.  (or two)

Myles did the little farmers things.  He had a blast.

Ashton entertained himself on the big tractor while Myles rode the little one.

My little farmers.

Our last stop was the military corner.  We had a great time playing on this Coast Guard boat.

When Myles was sitting where Abbie is in this picture a news camera man came and videoed him.  He was on the news that night.  It was really fun to see him on TV.

It was a fun day.

August (post vacation)

After we got home from Utah we spent the rest of the month fitting as much fun stuff as we could before school started.
Lexie and I went to Valley Fair (amusement park) with Jill and Scott to celebrate Scott's birthday.

We visited a few neighborhood parks.
Ashton likes this one a lot because it has a basketball banker

Park number two.
Tough guy shot.

Photo Bomber!

Myles learned how to ride a scooter.

He's quick on that thing.

We tried to spend as much time outside as we possibly could.
It was a great end to a great summer.
